Cause Summary

The rationale for carrying out this project in Nansana Municipality, Wakiso district, Uganda is based on the challenges and risks resulting from increasing number of poor families, families coming from the neighboring villages, towns and outside Uganda. Families in poverty are invisible, yet they constitute a disproportionately large section of the (poor) population. Families are subsumed within the most referred to poverty categories: households, communities and people; yet among these they always occupy a position of least power and influence, and focus tends to concentrate on Well to do-related families.

Problem / Challenge

The Project aims at solving the problems hidden by the fact that poor families are invisible; yet by the very nature of their situation, they are included among those that are classified as disadvantaged and poor in Uganda. Families are subsumed within the poverty categories most often referred to such as households, communities, which means that there is a high tendency to focus on adult-related poverty while family problems are ignored, partly because poor families have little power and influence. Findings reflect that families in absolute poverty situations can be recognized by rather elementary criteria. Top on the list is absence of basic necessities such as Education, Health, food, clothing and water. Equally important is the ‘human condition’ in terms of physical health and care and protection.

Solution / Impact

The specific activities to be implemented are elaborated below: 1) To empower families with knowledge and skills to run projects that will sustain stability in their incomes and families. 2) To provide Bodadoda Motorcycles in revolving strategy. 3) To ensure effectiveness of the approach through periodic monitoring and evaluation of the approach. The project will provide Bodaboda motorcycles to families that will be in the revolving fund strategy. Beneficiaries will at every week save money from this work that will help run the project and sustain their families through education, food, and health services to the family members.
