A year after the 4th August blast, the implications of the disaster still echo through the city of Beirut and nearby areas. Lebanon is suffering from a multiple crisis, most recently the financial, economic and fuel crisis and the Covid-19 Pandemic, particularly affecting the low-income families. Families in Beirut are not able to meet their most basic needs.
Lebanon is battling the COVID-19 pandemic, political unrest, and a dire economic crisis that had seen its currency plummeting, massive layoffs, and drastic banking restrictions. In the year since the explosion, the economic, political, and social crises have only intensified. Due to these compounding crises and ongoing challenges Lebanon is facing, families in Beirut are struggling financially to meet their basic needs.
These are challenging times in Lebanon – both for our colleagues and their families, and for us as an organisation as we navigate how to respond to this increasingly complex crisis.
